Friday, July 23, 2004 I've been with this company for 4 years now. They adopted me when I was lost and nowhere to go after graduating college. I started when it was so small around 100 employees and our group was just growing. We had our own room back there in the old building. We play a lot and eat a lot. During lunch breaks, the girls eat at one small room where the rainmaker group stays. We chat about everything. And we were called that Institutional Research Group, the best of the crop. Then changes came our manager have to leave for Sydney and we were bound to transfer office building. It has been a difficult transition for most of us --- new manager, new environment and group that add at least five persons a week. Then our subgroup, the declarable stakes, along with the profiles team, then the contact info and fund acquisition team, have to transfer to another floor because we a lacking office space. The company had acquired a new floor because several other groups are expanding so when it is set up we have to transfer there. The declarable stakes team was composed of four analysts and a senior analyst. We are making are setting up the guidelines in updating our market coverage. Then the company acquired another firm with similar systems. During that time we hired temps for the new work and others have to help up in duplicating what we have in our system to the other. They say it will be just three-month before they could migrate the system. Then two years had passed and no migration was seen. We grew to 14 analysts, a senior analyst and a team manager. We had difficulties along the way, quarrels that cannot be avoided and lost some good people along the way. It was a struggle for most us, especially for us, "the oldies"; we are the cores of this group. The "babies" look up to us. I am finally leaving the company I've learned to love and the people I've learned to cherish. I guess this is a change that is bound to happen. A challenge I need to take to know myself better. I'll miss everything about Thomson especially the people I've worked with. God Bless to all of you. And I promise to never forget all of you. | Thursday, July 08, 2004 A special friend...When you say a person is your special friend that that mean his/her your girlfriend or boyfriend? Could it be that he/she is someone more than close to you than your other friend, like your best friend perhaps? Could you have a platonic relationship with another person and recognize him/her as your special friend? A friend of mine and I are always together. Since we both don't have a boyfriend we usually hang out together. Though we do not consider ourselves as best friend because we both believe that best friends should be one person and we have separate best friends. Could we somehow consider ourselves as special friends, but somehow this connotation implies differently and something negative especially between two girls. We are not gays to clear this out. Then last night as I was watching Even Stevens in the Disney channel Rei, one of the elder sister, had a problem regarding her best friend. The former best friend of her best friend arrives as she saw them together she became jealous maybe the fear of loosing a best friend over another consumes her. Then her mother told her, "you know and I have to teach you this, you could have more than one best friend." Maybe I could have one best friend it's just a matter of accepting that I could have them both. And I am so lucky to have two special persons that I have such a connection. | |
